10 HABITS THAT MADE ME FIT, RICH, SMART, AND HAPPY (PART 1) ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Just a few years ago, I used to believe that success came down to genes, innate talent, and luck.
Although I wasn't consciously aware of it, my actions reflected this belief.
Kaya tamad ako mag-aral, makinig sa classroom, mag-recite, and even after finishing school, naging tambay lang ako because I never thought I could succeed.
My mindset at that time was:
And my life was miserable.
It was only after I became an entrepreneur and met more successful people that my worldview turned upside down.
Naalala ko pa noong una kong nakasama yung mga big time (in multiple areas of their lives) sa age group ko, I was both impressed and humbled.
Not because nakakita ko ng extraordinary or magic sa kanila..
.. but because I saw how normal they are, just like the rest of us.
Alam nyo kung ano lang ang difference?
As boring and simple as it sounds, that's just it.
These people, kaya sila successful, is because they have different sets of habits that make the most of the same 24 hours we all have.
Kung tayo mindlessly lumalamon ng 12nn, sila kumakain consciously, within limits.
Kung tayo nagso-social media from 7-9pm, sila nasa gym, at dun sila nagso-social media. ๐Ÿคฃ
I simply adopted different sets of habits, and those habits compounded to shape the person I am today. โœŠ
And the good news is...
No matter how much you hate your life right now just like I did back then...
Just pick better ones and watch how your life transforms. ๐Ÿš€
To give you an idea where to begin..
Here are 10 habits I did (and still do) to go from being skinny-fat, broke, and feeling empty...
...to becoming fit, financially secure, and now impacting a lot of people.
Enjoy!

In a world filled with constant distractions and notifications..
.. our ability to focus is becoming inherently rarer as it becomes increasingly more valuable.
Without focus, we cannot achieve any of our goals. PERIOD.
And my #1 enemy for reclaiming focus? My mobile phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ
Just like eating desserts all the time can make you gain weight and feel sick, using your phone constantly will hijack your focus and make you procrastinate.
Kaya dessert lang sya, minsan lang, and/or small portion lang. ๐Ÿง
Once na-realize ko 'to, I made tough changes in how I deal with my phone, and some of them are:
โœ”๏ธ Silent 24/7
โœ”๏ธ Do Not Disturb (DND) function turned on 24/7
โœ”๏ธ Putting my phone out of sight during work hours
โœ”๏ธ Not touching my phone until all work is done (near evening), and usually pag nasa treadmill lang
โœ”๏ธ No social media apps and if mag open man ako, sa laptop yun
โœ”๏ธ Teaching the people around me how to contact me (not on social media, and for emergencies, call me twice so it rings)
And yes, my business requires social media, but I don't use that as an excuse anymore to be addicted to my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฒ
If you want to see how much of your life is being wasted, go to your Screen Time.
That amount of time can be used to produce something meaningful in your life.
Whether we like it or not, if we want to achieve success in life, we simply need to do the work. There's no alternative.
Pero hindi lang basta 'work' like what most people think.
It should be the type of work that lets you learn difficult things and produce quality results rapidly.
Deep work is the ability to concentrate deeply on a task without getting distracted.
This means no phone, no social media, no unnecessary browser tabs, and even website blockers are on. ๐Ÿ”•
Just me, in front of my computer, doing focused work on my needle-moving tasks. Day in, day out.
I do this for 90 minutes right after waking up, and then repeat this for 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 6 more rounds throughout the day.
Then, after my deep work sessions, dun pa lang ako mag check ng messages, emails, Slack, etc.
Some people call this 'time blocking'. Pwede rin. But time blocking doesn't always equate to deep work.
Usually, for many, yung time block nila still involves a lot of distractions. Naka time nga lang.
But that's not deep work; that's shallow work. Deep work is a different breed.
During an altered state of consciousness called 'Flow State' (na makukuha sa Deep Work), productivity and creativity can increase by up to 500% or more.
Not 5%, but 500% moreโ€”meaning you can now accomplish on Monday what it used to take you all week to do. ๐Ÿ”ฅ
And this was how I was able to build a successful business coming from poor academic background and ZERO business knowledge.
Exercise is essential to looking fit and healthy. No explanations needed.
Joke lang. Madaldal ako eh. Explain ko pa rin. ๐Ÿ˜
Most people only associate weight loss, abs, or looking good sa exercise. And it's okay. Yan naman talaga yung biggest bait to get people to do it โ€” to look better.
And I would agree, dahil kahit gaano kababaw ang tingin ng tao sa abs at malaking pwet..
No one can dispute the fact that confidence is everything.
Nag uusap nga kami ni Nas Arcayan the other day, and one big benefit that fitness gave him was his confidence in talking with people, giving presentations, etc.
Instead of just giving value, nabblock pa sya ng malaking wall of self-consciousness when he was still mega overweight. ๐Ÿ˜–
Imagine, instead of giving your presentation or speech with 100% focus on delivering value, you're only able to give 50% because the other 50% is spent worrying about how you look.
Such a waste, right?
And that's the big value of exercising (or fitness itself); it's to give you that extra boost of confidence in all situations.
But once you get past the 'improving your looks' phase, ang mano-notice mo na sa exercise are the unseen benefits.
โšก Building of discipline/grit
โšก Stress relief/management
โšก Emotional management
โšก Sleep quality
โšก Energy and vitality
โšก Resilience
โšก Self-respect and integrity
โšก Overall health
And probably a lot more.
Kaya nga exercise is not just a good habit; it's a META HABIT.
Meta habits are those that can have a ripple effect across multiple areas of your life. ๐Ÿ’ฏ
Meaning, no matter what success you're aiming for in life, exercise will help you with that by giving you all the benefits mentioned above.
And I believe this is the reason why I've experienced success in business.
Not only because 'fitness' is my business, but also because the discipline I cultivated from fitness has transferred to building a business.
As an added bonus, I rarely experience signs of mental fatigue and burnout because my physiology is capable of handling so much more. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
Whether you're a man or a woman, start with 3x a week weight training sessions (separate from cardio). Build that habit.

Aside from it being part of my exercise habit and reaping the benefits mentioned above..
Walking also enhances my creativity and productivity. ๐Ÿง
It does this by:
โœ… Improving my focus while watching a course or listening to an audiobook, making me more receptive to learning. Nakaka-antok pag naka-upo lang
โœ… Reducing stress through the release of endorphins, the bodyโ€™s natural feel-good chemicals. When stress is low, you're in a better mood, and when you're in a better mood, you function at your best
โœ… Facilitating creative breakthroughs. Light exercise such as walking has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to stimulate the brain to connect new and old ideas, resulting in innovative thoughts.
Usually, sa shower or sa walk time ako nagkakaron ng mga "AHA moments", sparking ideas for writing, lessons, business strategies, solutions for small and big problems, and more.
And of course, a major plus of walking is that it burns calories, which helps me stay lean, and gives me extra calories for ice cream. ๐Ÿฆ
๐—›๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—œ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—ถ๐˜: I aim for 10,000 steps per day.
And when I say 'Creative Walk', it's not walking plus using social media or watching Netflix.
Those activities overstimulate the brain even more and block creativity/forming new ideas, so I avoid that.
But of course, you can start there; that's better than not walking at all.
We only have 24 hours a day.
As much as I want to extend it to do more, learn more, and have more fun, I can't.
So, I look for multi-tool solutions to maximize each hour of my day.
Isa sa naisip ko? It's to ditch music and replace it with audiobooks (and sometimes courses). ๐Ÿ‘‚
Now, my lifestyle goes like this:
๐Ÿ’ก During my 30-minute walk break, I listen to audiobooks
๐Ÿ’ก During my 60-minute weight training session, I listen to audiobooks
๐Ÿ’ก Whenever I drive or have a massage, I listen to audiobooks
๐Ÿ’ก Even while I'm asleep, I use earphones made for side sleepers to listen to audiobooks (nasa comment yung link)
This is what Tony Robbins calls NET = No Extra Time. Because you're using time without any extra cost.
Thanks to this, I finish an average of 2-3 books a week. ๐Ÿš€
Which gives me more awareness of the patterns of success.
Which leads me to making more right decisions and fewer dumber ones.
Which equates to me knowing MORE of the right things to do and navigating challenges with more confidence.
As a bonus, I've trained my listening speed, and I can now listen at an average of 2x - 2.5x speed while retaining information.
Now, most people think I'm smart and very knowledgeable at something.
Maybe, but it's not a 'special gift,' rather, it's the result of me doing this for many years and finishing hundreds of books.
Imagine replacing scrolling with reading.
Imagine replacing music with audiobooks (kahit minsan lang).
And imagine finishing at least 1 book a week.
Don't you think you can become knowledgeable and smart eventually?
I believe so.
Start replacing music with podcast. Train your listening skills. Sa umpisa mahirap yes, but it can be trained.

Relax lang. 10 naman talaga, pero ang haba na so I decided to separate them into two parts.
Will send Part 2 next Sunday instead. ๐Ÿ˜Š
To summarize, the 5 habits mentioned here are:
โœ”๏ธ Habit #1: Treating my phone as a sinful dessert
โœ”๏ธ Habit #2: Deep Work
โœ”๏ธ Habit #3: Exercise (for multiple different reasons)
โœ”๏ธ Habit #4: Creative Walk
โœ”๏ธ Habit #5: Choosing a life with minimal music
These habits are what I call '
Like meta-habits, they are habits I believe can positively affect all areas of anyone's life, kahit saang industry ka pa or kahit ano pang profession mo.
And they're the same habits nag nag-ahon sakin from being an unhealthy loser tambay, to someone living a life I never imagined possible.
And since na-witness ko how life-changing they have been for me, hindi ko na sila pinakawalan and I still do them up to this day. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
I believe that by incorporating these habits (along with the next five) into your life, soon enough, you will find yourself in a much better position, regardless of where you start.
As Robin Sharma wisely said:
Now, let's use these habits to build the life we desire. ๐Ÿš€
