โ
That's how simple it can be.
โ
A common mistake many of us make is aiming for the same goals and results (Steps 1 and 5) as everyone else (like success in fitness, money, relationships, and life in general)...
โ
...but continuously choosing to use the WRONG ingredients (Step 3: Habits).
โ
Usually, may idea naman na tayo sa gagawin eh (Step 2: Roadmap), pero hindi pa rin natin sila magawa consistently simply because we have the WRONG habits in place that pull us in the opposite direction.
โ
It's like a wanting to cook Kare-Kare pero ang ginagamit nating ingredients eh pang Sinigang.
โ
That will never work, right? โ
โ
Kaya kung ung maalala nyo sa last post ko (Part 1), I mentioned there that my life was miserable because I believed success came down to genes, inborn talent, and luck, and I didn't have those.
โ
But guess what? I was wrong!
โ
The only reason I was stuck in that dark place was because I was using the WRONG ingredients! In short, it was my bad habits.
โ
And when I decided to install the right ones, my life massively changed for the better.
โ
The good news for all of us is,
If we do, these good habits we adopt will shape the person we become in the future, regardless kung nasan man tayo right now. ๐
โ
To help you with this, here are the 10 habits I did (and still do) to go from being an unhealthy loser, broke, tambay..
โ
...to becoming fit, financially secure, and now impacting a lot of people.
โ
Enjoy!

โ
Meditation is very underrated.
โ
It's rare to find people who consistently do it, which isn't surprising, Mahirap naman kasi makita, ma-sense, at ma-feel yung immediate effects nito for one to continue doing it.
โ
Sobrang subtle.
To see its value, here's a little trivia:
โ
It's estimated that the average adult makes about 35,000 decisions each day.
โ
Yes, 35,000. Ganyan kadami.
So if meditation can provide us with a daily benefit of +0.1% to our clarity of thinking, decision making, mood, stress management, mental resilience, & self awareness..
โ
...don't you think it can positively influence these 35,000 decisions we make daily...
โ
...to the point that it can completely transform our entire life?
โ
Of course! Because..

Sabi nga isang mentor ko, "๐๐ถ๐ค๐ค๐ฆ๐ด๐ด ๐ช๐ด ๐ซ๐ถ๐ด๐ต ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ง๐ฆ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฃ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ค๐ช๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฅ๐ข๐บ."
โ
Even Ray Dalio, the hedge fund billionaire (net worth of $20 billion) and the author of the great book 'Principles', credits a lot of his success to meditating twice a day.
โ
So, naisip ko, if many multi-millionaires and billionaires credit meditation for their success, hindi ba sobrang unwise if I won't incorporate it to my routine, lalo kung goal ko rin naman maging successful?
โ
And that's the reason why I meditate daily.
โ
I do it for 10-15 minutes, 2-3x a day.
โ
The small investment of time trumps the benefits it gives.

A shutdown ritual is a deliberate routine done at the end of each workday to shift from work to personal time.
โ
This usually involves a series of tasks like cleaning up your desk, reviewing the day, and closing all work-related loops before ka mag K-drama. ๐
โ
Pero weโre not going to discuss all of that.
โ
Ang gusto ko i-highlight dito as part of my shutdown ritual is yung importance ng 'Planning for tomorrowโ.
โ
It's the process of planning ahead and organizing the tasks I'll tackle the next day, before I go to sleep.
โ
From deep work sessions, business tasks, meetings, workout, books to read, etc.
โ
It's outsourcing my decisions to my higher (logical) self rather than my emotions.
โ
I want to wake up the next day already knowing what to do.
โ
Because if I wait until the next morning to decide on my tasks, it's already too late. I've already wasted a lot of mental energy (as our willpower is finite).
โ
Worse, my decisions may be influenced by my mood. And if I let my mood dictate my actions? Well, alam ko na mangyayariโI'll make more dumb decisions, and sure na mag Netflix lang ako the whole day.
โ
And here's the bonus:
โ
When you plan your tasks the night before, your subconscious mind starts working on them in the background.
โ
Kaya pag gising mo kinabukasan, solutions are already there, waiting to be used. โก
โ
Ito yung ginagawa namin ni Joie Cantos for the past 9 weeks, and they have been some of the most productive times of my life.
โ
โ

โ
What does a lion eat? Mostly meat.
โ
So I do the same.
โ
It's basically defaulting to eating plenty of protein in a day. ๐
โ
To give you a precise number, it's consuming
This helps me recover better and faster from my exercise sessions, resulting in more muscle growth and strength progress.
โ
And guys, alam naman na natin 'to..
โ
..that by having bigger muscles, that equates to having more chickababes.
โ
โ
I'll tell you a secret.
โ
Most fitness gurus, including me, will tell you that you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight.
โ
This means that you can eat rice, chocolates, milk tea, and even alcohol kahit ang goal mo is weight loss.
โ
That's legit.
โ
But what balances that marketing statement is that we will also encourage you to consume plenty of protein and to eat within caloric limits.
โ
So, by following these two guidelines, your chances of going over your calories and adding unwanted weight almost take care of themselves.
โ
Kasi pag kumain ka ng madaming protein (0.8g - 1g per pound of your bodyweight), your calories for the day will already be filled, and konti na lang matitira mong room to eat those sinful foods.
โ
Na kahit sabihin pa sayo na "๐ฑ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฉ๐ช๐ต ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฐ", wala na, puno ka na eh. ๐
โ
And that's the magic of consuming more protein; it's a big domino habit because it also ripples across your eating patterns.
โ
Doing that keeps me lean, doesn't make me feel deprived, and gives me sexy-looking muscles..
โ
.. for my GF. ๐

โ
When we think of habits, we often think of 'physical' actions or behaviors.
โ
But habits extend beyond that.
โ
Kasama sa habits natin yung thinking patterns: our analytical processes, decision-making, problem-solving skills, cognitive biases, and most importantly, how we interpret everything around us.
โ
In simpler terms, kasama dito yung habit natin of always looking for the good over the bad (and vice versa) sa mga bagay-bagay.
โ
At kung hindi pa rin tumatama..
โ
โ
Imagine two people hearing something from a friend, saying:
Ang reactions:
I know this is overly simplistic.
โ
But my point is, their reactions are based on their habitual way of thinking.
And if you add the element of time here, let's say add 5-10 years to both people with different thinking habits.
โ
Where do you think they'll end up?
โ
Here's my guess:
โ
1 will experience many failures for always jumping on opportunities. Malulugi, mag-fail, at masasaktan, but eventually she will succeed because you cannot fail if you never stop trying.
โ
2 will experience fewer failures by avoiding opportunities. She will stay in her comfort zone, in her own bubble, and live a life based on fear. Worse, she will pass that on to her kids and grandkids.
โ
And that's where the Gratitude habit comes in.
โ
How you often see something as good or bad depends on how strong this habit is.
โ
The stronger it is, the more receptive you are to seeing the good, it's as if may suot kang eyeglasses that filter out only the positive things.
โ
And the big benefit of it? You become a happier, more effective individual, making better choices in life.
โ
What's the alternative? With a weaker gratitude habit...
โ
You become a grumpier, more negative individual, making more bad choices because your default emotions are anger, fear, sadness, etc.
โ
โ
Good luck attracting success that way. ๐
โ
Kaya nga there are many scientific studies that have shown that gratitude can:
โ
โ
Improve sleep
โ
Enhance relationships
โ
Keep us healthier
โ
Increase motivation
โ
Boost happiness
โ
Because of the same reason that grateful people have a different lens on how they view the world.
โ
Na kahit seemingly 'bad' ang nangyayari sa kanila, they still see the good and they respond better, overcoming problems much faster.
โ
Instead of viewing 'challenges' as punishments, they see them as 'gifts' that transform them into better people.
โ
And it's not just the emotion of fear, but almost all unpleasant emotions.
โ
Anger, frustration, disappointment, insecurity, hate, regret, envy โ you can't feel grateful and simultaneously feel any of these emotions.
โ
There's just no way.
โ
(You can THINK you're grateful, but it's different from truly FEELING grateful. If you're in that state, those unpleasant emotions automatically dissolve.)
โ
And that's the reason why practicing gratitude (kahit jologs sya for many, especially men) is a crucial habit for me.
โ
Without making this habit strong, I wouldn't be able to overcome many of my personal and professional challenges, given how messed up my mental and emotional states wereโlet alone lead people.
โ
(Shout out to my spiritual coach and close friend, Sarah Maรฑosca Suyom, for hammering the gratitude habit into my life for like an entire year.)
โ
Here's how practice it:
โ
Immediately after waking up, I think of 10 things I'm grateful for
โ
Before checking my messages and emails, I remind myself that whatever I'm going to see, they are all opportunities
โ
At night, I write all my wins for the day sa journal ko
โ
When experiencing something stressful, I always reframe it as something that's making me grow, or that I'm being guided towards a better path
โ
Try it for a month..
โ
And watch how it attracts even more blessings into your life.
According to Google, the average person has approximately 70,000 thoughts per day.
โ
Despite many of those being repetitive, thousands of them are valuable gems (lalo kung constant learner ka).
โ
Ang daming ideas dyan na pwedeng makatulong sa atin sa business, sa pera, sa relationships, and sa family so we can live a better life, or even solve our next challenges.
โ
Pero bakit hindi natin sila fully nagagamit?
โ
It's because not all of us have the ability to organize our thoughts effectively.
โ
And that's what ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ and ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ do for me.
โ
They help me look into my thoughts and observe the swirling ideas that are already there but not yet put to use, then organize them effectively.
โ
Kaya naman despite having a poor academic background and zero business knowledge when I started..
โ
I was still able to create a business, transform thousands of people, lead my relationships, and make an impact...
โ
.. simply because I've learned how to organize my ideas through regularly writing, thereby helping me better my communication with everyone.
โ
If hindi ako nag-practice magsulat, I wouldn't be able to have clarity of my thoughts, let alone give proper instructions to my team members.
โ
And that's how writing has helped me both personally and professionally. ๐
โ
As for journaling naman (writing for myself)..
โ
Ang crucial benefit nito is ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ง-๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ด๐ด, another meta-habit.
โ
(Meta habits are those that can have a ripple effect across multiple areas of your life.)
โ
When navigating life and pursuing self-improvement, ang pinaka-kalaban natin dito are things like self-doubt, insecurities, triggers, fears, etc.
โ
โ
But those are our biggest roadblocks.
โ
So what journaling does is it helps us reflect on our thoughts, emotions, and perceptions, helping us understand ourselves better.
โ
Dito natin malalaman yung weaknesses natin (so we can work on or with them), or yung strengths natin (so we can double down on them).
โ
Without self-awareness, hindi natin makikilala yung sarili natin and ang effect nyan, bukod sa magiging sunud-sunuran lang tayo sa gusto ng iba, we'll remain stuck in our old (repetitive) patterns.
โ
Hindi natin mako-correct yung mga dapat i-correct for us to get to the next level.
โ
And these are the reasons why I write and journal daily.
โ
I started in 2013 and it's a habit I've maintained since; it's one of my non-negotiables.
Of course, kasi hindi ka nagsusulat.
โ
Wala namang magaling na agad magsulat from their first try.
โ
In addition, hindi mo naman kailangan maging magaling sa sulat if youโre doing it for Self-Awareness; itโs just a way to get to know your thoughts, your ideas, and yourself much better.
โ
Ayaw mo ba kilalanin sarili mo? Ikaw din, makakasama mo pa yan ng 20, 30, 40, or 50+ years, so my advice is to get to know him/her even better.
I use an app called DayOne, but you can start with just anything, like Notes app.
โ
What I do is I write every night what happened in my day.
โ
No structure needed. Even bullet points will do.
โ
Do this daily and don't be too surprised when you catch yourself thinking smarter, communicating better, and positively impacting others.
โ

โ
In this long post, Iโve listed all the habits that have transformed me from being a loser tambay to someone living a life I never imagined possible.
โ
To summarize, my 10 non-negotiable habits are:
โ
Habit 1: Treating my phone as a sinful dessert
Habit 2: Deep Work
Habit 3: Exercise (for multiple different reasons)
Habit 4: Creative Walk
Habit 5: Choosing a life with minimal music
โ
Habit 6: Meditation
Habit 7: Shutdown Ritual
Habit 8: Eating like a lion
Habit 9: Gratitude Magic
Habit 10: Writing & Journaling

โ
Now, baka iniisip mo:
I get that.
โ
Because like you, I'm in for fun; that's one of my top values.
โ
Parts of me just want to forget about those good habits and simply have fun 24/7, kaya sobrang gets ko talaga.
โ
But one day, I had a profound realization about life that changed my perspective regarding these.
โ
Naisip ko that time:

Afterwards, ganito ko na sya nakita:
Social media, partying, Netflix whole day
Financial freedom, traveling the world, indulging in expensive experiences, having fun with successful people
โ
And this realization made it easier for me to put effort into building these good habits. ๐
โ
So, here's my question for you:
โ
Are you satisfied with having fun at level 1?
โ
Or would you prefer to have fun at level 10?
โ
There's no right or wrong answer..
โ
But for sure, one option sounds damn way more enjoyable. ๐
